Cogency’s Dr. Cheung is Speaking at “Legionella and Other Waterborne Pathogens: Recognition, Evaluation, and Control”

Saturday, May 21 | 8:00 AM– 5:00 PM

Topics:
Biosafety and Environmental Microbiology, Healthcare, Indoor Environmental Quality

ONLY 2 SEATS REMAINING!

Description
This PDC will provide the basic framework for understanding the principles of the recognition, evaluation, and control of waterborne pathogens (such as Legionella, Pseudomonas, Klebsiella, etc.) in various water systems. The main emphasis of the course will be placed on technical strategies for environmental exposure and risk assessment in order to provide an understanding of data collection and interpretation in support of environmental source identification. Particular attention will be paid to the review of core competencies and environmental sampling and evaluation techniques as well as chemical or physical treatment approaches designed to control waterborne pathogens in water systems. A combination of indepth discussion, lecture, handson exercises with real data sets, and review of case studies will equip the participants with a breadth of resources to meet learning objectives. International standards and guidelines will also be covered.

Prerequisites
General microbiology coursework preferred.

Learning Aids
Participants must bring a laptop OR tablet/iPad.

Value Added
An electronic copy of AIHA’s Recognition, Evaluation, and Control of Legionella in Building Water Systems will be provided.

Outcomes

Upon completion, participants will be able to:

Acquire a basic understanding of the microbiology and growth conditions of Legionella and other waterborne pathogens, as well as considerations for exposure and disease outcomes.

Obtain a general knowledge of various water systems that may be impacted by Legionella and other waterborne pathogens including design and areas of risk.

Utilize assessment strategies for evaluating risk associated with Legionella and waterborne pathogen contamination.

Identify current approaches to the control of Legionella and waterborne pathogens in water systems.
